Özet:

Shamsuddin al-Sivasi was an influential figure with his scientific and mystical personality in the 16th century. Sivasi worked as a professor in the sahn-i saman madrasahs (one of the highest educational facilities) and deeply influenced the Ottoman society in its creed, practical and moral dimensions with his works, caliphs and guidance activities. His close relations with state administrators had an undeniable effect on his influence on Ottoman society. Sivasi’s support for the state’s efforts to preserve the line of ahl as-sunnah in terms of belief, worship and morality had positive connections with the Ottoman sultans Kanuni, Selim II, Murad III and Mehmed III. In their relations with the Köprülü and the Sivas Governor of the time, Hasan Pasha, there were remarkable contacts at the point where the belief, worship and moral thought structure and the guidance activities reached an effective point. This paper discusses, the relations of Sivasi with the Ottoman state officials, especially the Ottoman sultans, in various dimensions. In this context it touches upon his relations with the Ottoman sultans and some statesmen of his period based on what Sivasi includes in his works. This study also draws attention to the qualities that Sivasi envisaged to have in the statesmen, as well as, some of his advice to them.
