Ders kitapları öğrencilerin neleri nasıl öğreneceklerine, öğretmenlerin de neleri nasıl öğreteceklerine yön verir. Bu araştırmanın amacı Millî Eğitim Bakanlığı tarafından onaylanmış fizik ders kitaplarının etkinliğinin hem bütünsel olarak hem de farklı kategoriler altında ayrıntılı olarak incelenmesidir. Bu araştırmada nitel araştırma yaklaşımlarından doküman analizi yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Araştırmada öğretmen adaylarının onaylanan ve farklı yayınevleri tarafından basılmış 14 adet fizik ders kitabına ait değerlendirmelerine dayanarak bu kitapların etkinliği incelenmiştir. Veri toplama aracı olarak, fiziksel özellikler, içerik, anlatım ve dil, etkinlikler, öğretimsel destek, organizasyon ve görseller olmak üzere yedi kategori altında toplanan 131 maddeden oluşan Ders Kitabı Değerlendirme Ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Lise fizik ders kitapları arasında hiçbir kitap tüm kriterleri tamamen sağlayarak, etkin bir kitap özelliğini gösterememiştir. Buna göre incelenen lise fizik ders kitapları öğrencinin öğrenmesinde ve öğretmenin öğretim uygulamasında beklenen role tam olarak sahip değildir. Fizik ders kitaplarının en zayıf olduğu kategorinin içerik olduğu belirlenmiştir. Kitapların organizasyon, etkinlikler ve öğretimsel destek açısından sadece yeterli seviyede olduğu diğer bir ifade ile kitapların bu alanlarda eksiklikleri olduğu ortaya konulmuştur. Fiziksel özellikler kategorisinde iyi seviyede bulunan kitapların, görseller ve anlatım ve dil kategorilerinde çok iyi seviyede olduğu bulunmuştur. Bu çalışmanın sonuçları fizik derslerinde kullanılan ders kitaplarının onaylanmasında daha kapsamlı ve detaylı çalışılmasını, ders kitaplarının etkinliğinin artırılarak, öğrencilerin ve öğretmenlerin ders kitaplarından en iyi şekilde yararlanmalarının sağlanması gerektiğini işaret etmektedir. Araştırmada kullanılan ölçek ve araştırmanın sonuçları yazarlar ve onaylayıcılar için bir kılavuz niteliğindedir. Araştırmacılar aynı ölçeği farklı disiplinlerin ders kitaplarını detaylı incelemek ve değerlendirmek için kullanılabilirler.
Teaching books guide students to what they learn, and teachers to what they learn. The purpose of this research is to study in detail the effectiveness of physics lessons approved by the Ministry of National Education, both in general and under different categories. In this study, the method of document analysis was used from the quality research approaches. In the study, the effectiveness of these books was studied on the basis of the assessments of 14 physics lessons approved and published by different publishers. As a data collection tool, the Curriculum Book Assessment Scale was used, which consists of 131 items collected under seven categories, including physical characteristics, content, narrative and language, events, teaching support, organization and visuals. No book among high school physics curricula books has been able to show an effective book characteristic, fully providing all the criteria. Accordingly studied high school physics curricula books do not have the expected role in the student's learning and teacher's teaching practice. It is determined that the category of physical lessons is the weakest content. Another expression is that books are only at a sufficient level in terms of organization, events and teaching support, and that books have a lack in these fields. It has been found that good-level books in the category of physical characteristics have been very good-level in the category of books, images and narrative and language. The results of this study indicate more comprehensive and detailed study of the approval of the curricula used in physics courses, increasing the effectiveness of the curricula, and ensuring that students and teachers can take the best advantage of the curricula. The scale used in the research and the results of the research are a guide for authors and approved. The researchers can be used to study and evaluate the curricula in different disciplines of the same scale in detail.
Textbooks do not only influence what and how students learn, but also what and how teachers teach. The purpose of this study was to examine effectiveness of physics textbook approved by the Ministry of National Education both holistically and under categories. Document analysis procedure as a qualitative research method was carried out for this research. The effectiveness of 14 physics textbooks was examined based on the pre-service physics teachers’ evaluations. The instrument used for this study had 131 criteria under the following seven categories: Physical characteristics, content, explanation and language, activities, instructional support, organization, and illustrations. Results indicate that none of the textbooks fully covered all the necessary criteria; that is, the physics textbooks do not meet the expectations of teachers and students as an instructional tool. The physics textbooks had the lowest scores in the content category. They were evaluated as adequate for the categories of organization, activities, and instructional support. However, the textbooks found as in good level in the physical characteristics category were in very good levels in terms of the illustrations, and explanation and language categories. This study suggests that approvement process of physics textbooks needs to be more detailed and comprehensive. Effectiveness of the physics textbooks needs to be improved so that teachers and students can have the best benefits from them. The textbook evaluation instrument and the results can be a guide for textbook authors and the Ministry. Researchers can use this instrument to examine and evaluate textbooks from other disciplines.
