Abstract:

Digital currencies, which have emerged and spread under the leadership of the private sector in recent years, have begun to replace traditional physical currencies. In the face of this development, the central banks are conducting intense research and evaluation to market their official digital currencies. No doubt, a digital currency created by the central banks will have an impact in many areas of the economy, primarily central banking. The aim of this study is to promote the central bank’s digital currency and to reveal the potential effects that the central bank’s digital currency will create. For this purpose, an illustrative analysis method was adopted in the study. It is believed that the central bank’s digital currency could be used as a monetary policy tool in case of interest payments and could increase monetary policy efficiency, but could negatively affect financial stability due to uncertainty it would create.
