Diyarbakır Ziya Gökalp Primary School is a cultural asset that dates back to 19th century. The building, which served as Diyarbakır Inas School (Girls' School) when it was built, is still used for educational purposes today. However, although the building maintains a similar function, the user profile, usage pattern and intensity of the building have evolved with the period in which it was built. These change and increased intensity can damage the historical, technical, cultural and architectural features of the building. This study adresses the issues relted to some problems encountered with the importance and necessity of adapting historical buildings to the conditions brought by today's use conditions while preserving their original function. It also evaluates the conservation problems of Diyarbakır Ziya Gökalp Primary School. We explore, the history, location, architecture, previous renovations and current conservation problems of Diyarbakır Ziya Gökalp Primary School were expressed through literature review and field research. Considering the current state of the building, it has been determined that the building is being used beyond its spatial and technical capacities. A restoration project is needed for the building. This project should not create difficulties in terms of the use and intensity of use of the building and should reveal the unique cultural and spatial values of the building. For this purpose, analysis-detection-documentation studies were carried out in the study and suggestions were developed for these problems, such as maintenance, repair and training.
