Abstract:

Literary genres undergo major changes throughout history owing to time-varying conditions and needs or don’t sustain the existence and evolves to other literary genres. Novel emerges after the myths, legends, fairy tales and stories in the beginning of 17th century and increases in importance hitherto that is the most attractive kind of literary genges today. Novel emerges when period of oral species based on the oral story-telling begans to close, makes a major development with the progression of science and dominates in new literary environment which printer instead of the narrator, reader instead of the listener is important. Majority of narrative possibilities provides significant momentum to the novel on the continuation of the effectiveness of ıt. After processes of medieval romances, romantic novel, modern novel, modernist novel, new novel, postmodern novel is a matter of debate what to expect. The final tendency of the novel is accepted magical realism that evaluated in postmodern literature and show the effects in Turkish literature nowadays too. However magical realism doesn’t exclude completely predecessor literary movements. Today’s novel isn’t under the effect of the single current, despite general characteristics of the works reflects the postmodern philosophy. In this article, phases of the novel genre that was exposed to a significant change since inception and wasn’t completed this process of change yet will be evaluated, future situation and current status of this kind will be discussed.
