The aim of this research was to determine metacognitive awareness of reading strategies levels of secondary school students and to identify relationship between level of using metacognitive reading strategies and several variables. In this study, the descriptive (survey) model was used. The sampling group was formed by random sampling selection method. The research sample was comprised with the first term of the 2012-2013 academic year 5th and 6th class of 350 students studying in centre of Istanbul. For the purpose of research Ozturk (2012) 'The Turkish version of the metacognitive awareness of reading strategies inventory was administered to students. The data obtained from this study t-test, regression and ANOVA analyzes were conducted with using SPSS 20 software. According to the findings obtained from research significant relationship was found betweenstudents to use metacognitive strategies with age, sex, reading, academic achievement, family reading level of variables.
