Tarihi mirası, inanç yapısı ve kültürel değerleriyle Anadolu’nun kadim kentlerinden biri olan Urfa, tarih boyunca önemini korumuştur. Sadece uzak geçmişiyle değil, yakın tarihiyle de dikkatleri üzerine toplayan şehir, Milli Mücadele esnasında büyük başarılar göstermiştir. Bu başarısına istinaden 6 Aralık 1984 tarihinden itibaren “Şanlıurfa” adıyla anılmış, 11 Nisan 2016 yılında ise “İstiklal Madalyası”na layık görülmüştür. Urfa sadece Milli Mücadele esnasında değil, Türkiye’nin de yer aldığı Kore Savaşı ve Kıbrıs Barış Harekâtı’nda da destek veren ve cepheye asker gönderen şehirlerden biri olmuştur. Öyle ki Urfa’dan Kıbrıs Barış Harekâtı’na katılan askerlerden 8’i şehit olurken bunlardan 630’u ise gazi olma şerefine nail olmuştur. Bu çalışmada Kıbrıs Barış Harekâtı’nda göstermiş oldukları kahramanlıklardan dolayı “Muharip Gazi” unvanını alan Urfalı askerlerin harekâta dair izlenimleri ele alınmıştır. Gazilerin harekâta dair izlenimleri ile birlikte adada birebir yaşamış oldukları olaylar da bu çalışmada ele alınan konular arasında olmuştur. Çalışmada kaynak olarak sözlü mülakatlar temel alınmıştır. Gerek sözlü mülakatlar gerekse literatürdeki muhtelif kaynaklardan elde edilen bulgulara göre Urfalı gazilerden birçoğunun harekâta gönüllü olarak katıldığı ve bu harekât esnasında iaşe yetersizliğinden dolayı çeşitli sıkıntılar çektiği saptanmıştır. Ayrıca adaya ulaşan gazilerin çok çetin çatışmalar yaşadığı ve bu çatışmalar neticesinde çeşitli yerlerinden yaralandıkları belirlenmiştir. Bunların haricinde arkadaşlarının şehit olmasına tanıklık eden gazilerin olduğu da saptanmıştır.
Urfa, one of the ancient cities of Anadolu with its historical heritage, beliefs and cultural values, has retained its importance throughout history. The city, not only with its distant past, but also with its recent history, has shown great successes during the National Struggle. According to this success, it was named "Shanlıurfa" since December 6, 1984, and in April 11, 2016 it was awarded the "Istiklal Medal". Urfa was one of the cities that supported and sent soldiers to the front, not only during the National Struggle, but also in the Korean War and the Cyprus Peace Movement where Turkey was involved. Thus, 8 of the soldiers from Urfa who participated in the Cyprus Peace Movement were martyrs, while 630 of them were honoured to be gazi. In this study, the impressions about the movement of the Urphali soldiers, who were named "Muharip Gazi" because of the heroism they showed in the Cyprus Peace Movement, were addressed. With the impressions of the movements of the Gaza Stripes, the events that they have lived on the island were among the topics discussed in this study. The study was based on oral interviews as a source. According to the findings obtained from various sources in the literature, many of the Urphans have been voluntarily involved in the movement, and during this movement they suffered various trouble due to the lack of attention. It is also stated that the gats arriving on the island have experienced very severe conflicts and have been injured from various places as a result of these conflicts. Other than those who have witnessed that their friends are martyrs.
Urfa, which is one of the cities of the Anatolian geography with its historical heritage, religious values and cultural texture, maintained its importance throughout human history. Not only in the distant past, but also in recent history, the city has gained great success during the National Struggle. In the light of this success, on 6 December 1984, it was named as "Şanlıurfa" and on 11 April 2016 it was awarded the "Independence Medal". National Struggle period, not only in Urfa, Turkey has participated in the Korean War and Peace Operation in Cyprus and labor that has been one of the city sending soldiers to the front. Such that the soldiers which joined cyprus peace operation from Urfa, 8 of them gained martyr and the 630 of them gained warrier for the faith. In this work, the impression of the operation of the Urfans soldiers who took the title of "Warriors Gazi" due to the heroism they showed in Cyprus Peace Operation will be discussed. The impressions of ghazies about this operation and the events in island they come across one-to-one are matter getting to be issues in this labour. Oral interviews were used as a source in the study. According to the findings obtained from the various sources in the literature, it was determined that some of the Urfalians wariors participated voluntarily in the operation and that the veterans suffered various troubles due to lack of subsistence during this operation. It's also determined that war veterans arrived to island, were come across tough combats and after these combats they were injured from various parts of their bodies. Expect from these ıt's determined that there were war veterans witnessed to death of their army friends.
