Abstract:

The opportunities that arise for the economic and social development of cities along with digitalization require the city governments to focus on this area with comprehensive strategies. The city administration has to see that digitalization is now the driving force of society and to turn the possibilities emerging in the digital age into opportunities, to build a strong digital infrastructure for the benefit of the urban citizens and to closely follow the developments in this area. By means of digital platforms, cities,, social and economic organizations will be able to reach the knowledge of the whole world, and they will be able to take more effective roles in urban management, social life, international trade and many other areas. In this study, which aims to reveal the importance and methods of transforming the developments in information and communication technologies in the digital age into opportunities that will accelerate the economic and social development of the city by effectively assessed by the city administration, the opportunities for economic life are first and foremost focused on. In this context, the contribution of the city administration to the urban economy of opportunities arising in many areas, such as the development of international trade in the digital age, the creation of new business and employment areas, the promotion and the increase of tourism, has been focused on the contribution of the city administration to the urban economy. In the framework of the social opportunities emerging for urban governance in the digital age, opportunities such as access to disadvantaged groups and new generation networks, the provision of urban services in the digital environment, the opportunity to communicate directly with citizens and the provision of urban security by digital means have been described.
