Aim: Prof. Dr. Hamdi Suat Aknar is the founder of pathology in Turkey, in modern sense. Prof. Dr. Hamdi Suat Aknar, was born in Harput in 1873 and died in Istanbul, in 1936. Our aim is to commemorate him in Elazig which is his birth place, in his 70th year of death and introduce him to new generations. Educational background: Prof. Dr. Hamdi Suat Aknar, was graduated from Faculty of Medicine in 1899 in Istanbul. He studied pathology from 1899 to1904, in Germany. Then, he studied in Faculty of Medicine in Istanbul for 26 years . He made substantial contributions to medicine and pathology education in Turkey. Publications: Total number of his publications is about 46. Two of them are books entitled “General Pathology” and “Autopsy and its Significance in Forensic Medicine”. Of 44 articles, 29 were in German, 10 were in French and 5 were written in Turkish. Result: Prof. Dr. Hamdi Suat Aknar is the founder of pathology in Turkey, in modern sense.
