Türkiye Türkçesinde nice biçiminde, tek şekilli olan ve daha çok “belirsizlik” ifade eden kelime, Eski Türkçe döneminde, ne sorma kelimesi ile +çA eşitlik ekinin birleşip kaynaşmasıyla oluşmuştur. Azerbaycan Türkçesinde, bu kelimeden doğmuş iki ayrı kelime kullanılmaktadır: neçe “ne kadar, kaç tane, ne kadar süreyle, çok fazla, ne kadar çok” ve nece “nasıl, niçin, ne suretle, hangi vs.”. Türkiye Türkçesinde nice biçiminde tek bir kelimenin Azerbaycan Türkçesinde neçe ve nece biçiminde iki ayrı kelime oluşu kelimenin tarih içindeki biçim ve anlamlarının doğru belirlenmesini engellemiştir. Anlamının doğru belirlenememesi, kelimenin eski dönemlerdeki biçimi olan neçe’nin anlamına “nasıl” ve “nice” anlamı karıştırılmasından kaynaklanıyor. Biçiminin doğru belirlenememesi ise, bu kelimenin birinci hecesinde söz konusu olan e> i darlaşması ve ekteki ç> c tonlulaşması tarihinin, metinlerden tespit edilmemiş olmasıyla ilgilidir. Kıpçak Türkçesi döneminde yer yer ilk hecesinin darlaştığı kabul edilen bu kelimede, Eski Anadolu Türkçesi döneminde ç> c değişmesi de gerçekleşmiştir. Başlangıçtan beri süregelen näçä> niçe “ne kadar? kaç?” kullanımı devam ederken, bunun “c”li biçimi olan nice; “nasıl, nice, ne suretle, hangi” anlamında kullanılmaya başlanmıştır. Bu çalışmayla neçe> niçe> neçe “ne kadar?” ve neçe> nice> nece “nasıl?” gelişmesi incelenmektedir.
In Turkish, the word, which is in many forms, one-shaped and more expressing "uncertainty", was formed in the Ancient Turkish era, with the combination of the questioning word with the +CA equality attachment. What’s “why” and “why” with this work? What is “Nice” and what is “Nice”? The development is being studied.
