Özet:

Book covers are graphic design products reflecting the content of the book which is a literary product on the reader through visual design. By cover design, prior information about the type and content of the book is given to the book viewer. The important facts, figures in the book are transferred to the cover design in accordance with graphic design principles and elements. Book cover designs involve information such as the name of the book, author, publisher and/or logo, the number of copies. In addition, in some book cover layouts, explanations such as sub-title or slogan summarizing the contents of the book are included. As the visual images on the book covers, the portraits which carry the function of reflecting the characters in the book’s content are in interaction with the other items of the book cover. In this study, the book cover designs of Elvan Ebinç whose first novel was published in 2013, the blogger and book writer Selen Işık with the nickname Pucca have been discussed in addition to the bookcovers of Turkish women novelists Ayşe Kulin, Erendiz Atasü, and Ece Temelkuran. These women authors are chosen owing to their perspectives and interpretations from different viewpoints in the women in Turkey, the resistances, troubles, positive and negative situations in women’s lives. In the selection of Turkish women writers’ books published in 2013, those including women portraits on the cover design were taken into account. The research is limited with the book cover designs of Turkish women’s novels which were published in 2013 and the woman portraits on cover designs. In the study where the functionality of book cover design will be examined in terms of form and content, the women portraits on the book cover designs will be analyzed using semiotic analysis.
