Özet:

It is known that for a long period in history, humankind has had the habit and made the effort of settling in a place or, in other words, leading a settled life. On the other hand, thanks to developing technologies, people have started to adapt to a mobile form of living. The need for transportation and communication are the two important characteristics of this process. Long ago, the ideal in our country was to build “an iron network” so-called, “a rail network” around the country, today it is construed as “a fiber network”. The recent classification as those who could get the internet service and those who could not is now questioned as a matter of infrastructure, quality and speed of that service benefited by the users. Dial-up internet access service of recent times was replaced by a service known as ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line). Today, ADSL is the most widespread internet access service provided in Turkey from both regional and local perspectives. In that sense, ADSL infrastructure makes the most common and integrated part of the initiatives of entrepreneurship and development in terms of communication and telecommunication sector. In this study, first of all, concepts of entrepreneurship and development were defined and then technical and infrastructural assessments related to the components of communication and telecommunication were made, which were followed by analyses of the statistical data for the use of ADSL in the province of Edirne. As a result of the study, attributed to Thrace region, goals of communication and telecommunication infrastructure and development were statistically assessed and finally the future prospects concerning the region were discussed.
