Development includes an individual’s lifelong, continuous and consistent development and change. Though there may be individual differences between people, they are generally expected to reach a certain development level at different times in life. Many factors, a major one of which is families, may affect development either positively or negatively in the critical preschool period. Socio-emotional development is especially important during this period for children to be able to develop a healthy personality and establish a constructive interaction with those around them. The quality of such socio-emotional development is closely tied to the relationship between parents and children. Supportive parental behavior may play a major role in raising self-confident, creative, independent and assertive, cooperative, peaceful, balanced and adaptable children.
