This study aims to measure the impact of the social service course with migrants and refugees included in the social service bachelor’s programme, moving from the example of the Syrians, on social service students. Thus, vulnerable and sensitive groups and work-responsible social service professionals have been addressed on a current, dynamic and important topic where the courses they receive in the bachelor’s training processes create a transformation at the expected level. The study was conducted with graduate students who take the social service course with migrants and refugees from two different state universities in our country. In this process, a research was designed according to the one-group pre-test-final test model with the use of the personal information form, the "Foreign Enemy (Zenophobia) Scale" and the "Local People's Attitude to the Syrians Scale". The study found that in the scale of foreign hostility applied before and after the course in order to measure the effectiveness of the course "Migrants and Refugees and Social Service" and in the scale of local people's attitude towards the Syrians, the students received scores were compared and there was a significant difference between the scores. The last test scores received by both universities’ social service students from both the Foreign Enemies Score and the Local People’s Attitude to the Syrians Score were significantly higher than the previous test scores (p<0,01). As a result, the degree course given to social services students, migrants and refugees has been found to have a positive impact on students’ perception of the Syrians. It has also been observed that this meaningful effect depends on many components and that the permanent behaviors and achievements created in the desired direction through structured educational processes can be effectively used in studies and education such as migration, social harmony, diversity and co-life.

This study aims to measure the impact of “social work with immigrants and asylum seekers” course in the social work undergraduate curriculum on the social work students based on the example of Syrians. In this way, social workers who have responsibility for working with vulnerable and fragile groups, whether the courses they take during their undergraduate education processes have created an unexpected level of change, will be addressed on a current, dynamic and important subject. This study was carried out with undergraduate students taking “social work with immigrants and asylum seekers” course from two different public universities in our country. In this process, the research was designed according to the single group pretest-posttest model with the quantitative research method using the personal information form, “Xenophobia Scale” and “The Attitude Scale Towards Syrians”. As a result of the research, the scores received by the students from “Xenophobia Scale” and “The Attitude Scale Towards Syrians” which was applied before and after “social work with immigrants and asylum seekers” course were compared and significant difference was found between the scores. Post-test scores of both universities' social work students which was received from “Xenophobia Scale” and “The Attitude Scale Towards Syrians” significantly higher than the pre-test scores (p<0,01). As a result, It has been determined that the undergraduate course given to social work students for immigrants and refugees has a positive effect on the perception of social work students towards Syrians. In addition, it has been observed that this significant effect depends on many components as well as the permanent gains and behaviors created in the desired direction with structured education processes can be used effectively in studies and trainings such as migration, social cohesion, diversity and living together.
