Gördes, günümüzde Manisa iline bağlı bir ilçedir. 1412 yılında Çelebi Mehmed döneminde Manisa ve çevresinin Osmanlı idaresi altına alınmasıyla Gördes de Osmanlı toprakları arasına katılmıştır. XV. yüzyıldan itibaren Saruhan Sancağı’na bağlı bir kazâ merkezi olan Gördes, bu özelliğini Osmanlı Devleti’nin yıkılışına kadar devam ettirmiştir. XVII. yüzyılın başlarından itibaren olağanüstü durumlar ve savaş masraflarının karşılanması için tahsil edilen avârız vergisi, süregelen savaşlar neticesinde sürekli alınan vergiler arasına girmiştir. Bu vergi için yapılan sayımlarda avârız defterleri tutulmaktaydı. 1640’lı yıllarda Osmanlı Devleti topraklarının genelinde bir avârız tahriri yapıldığı bilinmektedir. 1642 yılında Gördes Kazâsı’nda da avârız tahriri yapılmış ve bir defter hazırlanmıştır. Bu defterde Gördes Kazâsının mahalle ve köy gibi yerleşim birimleri ve buralarda yaşayan nüfus ayrıntılı bir biçimde ele alınacaktır. Ayrıca defterde tahrir dışı tutulan ve “Ellici” olarak bilinen İldelik Yörükleri üzerinde durularak nüfus içindeki oranları ortaya konulacaktır. Söz konusu defteri esas alan bu çalışma, belirtilen dönemdeki avârız tahrirleri üzerine yapılan çalışmalardan biri olma ve Gördes Kazâsı hakkında bilgi vermek amacındadır. Ayrıca Gördes’in 1642 yılındaki mahalle ve köylerinin tespit edilip, nüfus durumunun ortaya konulmasıyla şehrin tarihine küçük de olsa bir katkı sağlanması hedeflenmektedir.

In 1642, the etraordinary tax was also carried out in the township of Gördes and an awarid register was prepared. Based on this awarid register, settlements such as neighborhood and village of the Gördes area and the population living in these areas will be evaluated in detail. Also by emphasizing Idelik Nomads, known as "Elliciler" and were unregistered in awarid registers, their rates within the population will be revealed.This study, which is based on the book in question, aims to be one of the studies on the awarid registers in the specified period and to give information about the Gördes township. In addition, it is aimed to provide a small contribution to the history of the city by determining the neighborhoods and villages of the Gordes in 1642 and revealing the population status.
