Urban transformation and gentrification transform places that are confused as depression areas in urban centers and where clusters of non-class people and informal sectors are clustered. It focuses on the crime-focused and social exclusion-intensive spaces that are open to the use of middle and upper classes. This transformation that takes place over the urban space is a process in which the urban capitalism reproduces itself through the space. Istanbul, a global city, is heavily influencing the transformations that global capitalism makes over urban spaces. In this scope, the historical power plant which meets the electricity need of Istanbul is being transformed into a culture and education center by a private university. The re-valuation of an industrial area as the center of its educational and cultural activities has been addressed in the light of the cultural industry, gentrification and global capitalism debates.
