Abstract:

The aim of this research is to study the relationship between high school students’ internet addiction levels and gender, family income levels, mother and father’s state of learning, the level of social support perceived and academic success. The research was carried out in the 2015-2016 educational year with 358 (175 girls, 183 men) students who are studying in the four faculties high school (Anadolu High School, Industrial Professional High School, Trade Professional High School and Girl Professional High School) in the Sincan district of Ankara. Students who participated in the study were selected by a suitable sampling method from students of 9th, 10th and 11th classes in four different types of schools. In this study, the Participant Information Form developed by the researcher as a data collection tool, the "Internet Addiction Scale" developed by Young (1998) to measure students' internet addiction levels, and the Detected Social Support Scale (ASDÖ-R) revised by Lightning (2004) to evaluate social support perceptions. The research data was analyzed using the Quadratic and T-Test. According to the research findings, high school students’ internet addiction scores have been determined to differ significantly according to the variable of the family income level and the sub-scale scale scores of ASDÖ-R’s “Teacher Support” and “Family Support” according to the variable of the internet addiction level.
