Abstract:

The study aims to explore the mediation role of problem-solving skills in the impact of communication skills in elite athletes in different branches. The work was carried out with a total of 554 elite athletes from football, basketball, volleyball, hentball, competition, boxing, athletics, and judo branches showing voluntary participation. To obtain the data of the study, communication skills evaluation scale, problem-solving skills scale, and the scale of disability have been used. The "Communication Skills Assessment Scale" (IBDÖ) consisting of 25 articles developed by Korkut (1996) for the assessment of communication skills has been used. To obtain the data of the problem-solving skills of the elite athletes who participated in the study, the 35-matery Problem-solving Reserve (PCE) was implemented, which was developed by Heppner and Petersen, adapted to the Turkish by Shahin and Heppner (1993) . To determine the elite athletes' age-related levels, 8 sub-dimensions and 50 material age-related scale developed by Gürgân (2006) have been used. The analysis of the data is done using the SPSS program. For the test of the frequency, percentage analysis, t-test, one-way anova and model, hierarchical regression analyses were made. As a result, the impact of elite athletes’ communication abilities on scratch (ß=0,804) decreases when the problem-solving ability is added to the model (ß=0,246). This result shows that communication skills in elite athletes have a partial role of mediation in the problem-solving ability.
