The famous traveler Ibn Batuta had made a journey to Karadeniz area at the beginnings of the 16th century. In this travel he had met some administrators and notable peoples. And he had written down not only about the region’s agri-cultural, geographical and demographical features, but also he had given con-siderable information about religious life, customs and way of lives in this area. Within this frame, aim of this article is to deal with the Ibn Batuta’s impressions about Karadeniz and then to make an assessment on them under the lights of some modern research.
