The number of vehicles has steadily increased in parallel with the population in Turkey. Depending on the increasing number of vehicles, the number of accidents occurred in traffic also has increased. Traffic accidents can result in serious traumas, injuries and deaths as well as their material and moral consequences. And the fact that highway transportation is commonly preferred in Turkey, has been a major factor in the increase of traffic accidents. The total number of traffic accidents that occurred between the years of 2013-2017 in Turkey is 5.530.090, 1.497.353 of these accidents resulted in injury and death. Various studies have been conducted to reduce traffic accidents in the world and Turkey, but they could not be much effective in reducing accidents. Geographic Information System (GIS) is widely used in the analysis, reduction and decision-making process of traffic accidents. The use of GIS in traffic accidents is of great importance for the identification of accident hotspots, blind spots and changes in the intensity of accidents over the years. In this study, traffic accident data belonging to the city center of Viransehir (Şanlıurfa) between 2013 and 2017 were used. The accident data were obtained from the Ministry of Interior Traffic Inspection Department. Traffic accidents occurred in the study area were analyzed according to month, day and time distinction as well as the factors like day and night, road condition, weather condition and death or injury of the accident. The traffic accidents occurred between the years 2013-2017 were analyzed and the accident blind spots were determined.
