Abstract:

Whether mandatory or voluntary, immigration processes have a profound impact on individuals and immigrant groups. The hospitality of the Syrian refugees to our country for a decade, with the beginning of their countries’ civil war, appears to be even longer with many social problems. All of these processes and problems affect children and young people most due to the time they are in. But at the same time, the integration potential that these groups have also offers them the opportunity to build a future by adapting to new conditions. This is where the school, which is a planned socialization environment and a educational square, has many functions. The cultural and social climate of the school, on the one hand, provides a cultural environment for Syrian students, while on the other hand, it is the place for their secondary socialization by creating an environment in which they will be happy. On the other hand, the school is an environment in which these students make their co-socialization. But the school can also host negative processes such as self-sufficiency and alienation. In this study, which studies what kind of experiences they experience in schools in the context of socialization of Syrian students, profound interviews and participating observation techniques have been used from the quality data collection techniques. For the facility of transportation for the researcher, the Wednesday district was determined as the work area. As of the beginning of the 2019-2020 academic year, a total of 43 Syrian students are studying on Wednesday. In the framework of this study, 6 of these students visited the schools where they were on, semi-structured conversations with students were conducted. In the first part of the study, under the titles of Immigration and Education, Socialization and School Functions, the literary scan was conducted with conceptual analysis, in the second part the method of study was explained, in the third part the findings obtained were described. In the last part, the discussions and suggestions developed with the achieved results were ranked.
