Ortaokul öğrencilerinin aile bağları ve ailede şiddet görme durumlarının benlik saygısına etkisini belirlemek amacı ile yapılan çalışmanın örneklemini, İzmir’in Bornova İlçesinde üst sosyo-ekonomik düzey semtteki bir ortaokul ile düşük sosyo-ekonomik düzeydeki bir ortaokul oluşturmaktadır. Bu okullardaki 537 öğrenci araştırma kapsamına alınmıştır Çalışmanın verileri için, Morris Rosenberg tarafından geliştirilen Rosenberg Benlik Saygısı Ölçeği, Demirel ve Erdamar tarafından geliştirilen Aile Bağları Ölçeği ile öğrencilerin aile içi şiddet görme durumlarını ve demografik bilgilerini belirlemek için anket formu kullanılmıştır. Çalışmanın sonucunda öğrencilerin benlik saygıları ve aile bağları puanının yükseğe yakın olduğu, ailede düşük düzeyde şiddet gördükleri saptanmıştır. Öğrencilerin benlik saygısı puanlarının cinsiyete göre değişmediği, anne ve babanın eğitim düzeyi (p<0.01, p<0.001) ile sosyo-ekonomik (p<0.001) düzey arttıkça benlik saygısı puanlarının da arttığı ve bu farklılığın istatistiki açıdan önemli olduğu bulunmuştur. Ailede şiddet görme durumunun benlik saygısı üzerinde etkili olduğu, yüksek benlik saygısına sahip öğrencilerin ailelerinden daha az şiddet gördükleri, bu durumun istatistiki analiz sonucunda önemli olduğu ortaya konulmuştur (p<.001). Aile bağlarının, öğrencilerin sınıf düzeyi yükseldikçe, yani yaşları arttıkça, azaldığı (p<0.001) ve benlik saygısı üzerinde etkisinin olmadığı belirlenmiştir (p>0.05).
The examples of the study, aimed at determining the impact of high school students' family ties and the situation of violence in the family on self-respect, form a high school with a high socio-economic level with a high socio-economic level in Bornova district of İzmir. For the data of the study, the Rosenberg Identity Respect Scale, developed by Morris Rosenberg, and the Family Relations Scale developed by Demirel and Erdamar, were used to determine the students' situation of domestic violence and demographic information. The study found that students’ self-esteem and family relationships were close to the high, they saw low levels of violence in the family. The student’s self-esteem scores did not vary by gender, the mother and father’s educational level (p<0.01, p<0.001) and the socio-economic level (p<0.001) increased, the self-esteem scores also increased, and this difference was statistically important. It has been found that the state of violence in the family affects self-esteem, that students with high self-esteem see less violence than their families, and that this situation is important in the statistical analysis (p<.001). Family ties have been determined to decrease as the class level of students rises, i.e. as their age increases (p<0.001) and have no influence on self-esteem (p>0.05).
The sample of the study conducted to determine the effects of family ties and family violence on secondary school students' self-esteem constitutes an upper socio-economic level secondary school and a low socio-economic level secondary school in Bornova District of Izmir. 537 students in these schools were included in the research. The data of the study were collected using Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, developed by Morris Rosenberg, Family Ties Scale, developed by Demirel and Erdamar, and the questionnaire form used to determine domestic violence exposure and demographic information of students. As a result of the study, it was found that students' self-esteem and family ties score was close to high and that they experienced low violence in the family. It was found that the self-esteem scores of the students did not change according to sex, that the self-esteem scores increased as the education level of parents (p<0.01, p0.001) and socio-economic (p0.001) levels increased, and that this difference was statistically significant. It was demonstrated that the violence in the family had an impact on self-esteem, that the students with high self-esteem were exposed to less violence from their families, and that this situation was significant as a result of statistical analysis (p<.001). It was determined that family ties decreased as the students' grade increased, i.e. as their age increased (p <0.001), and had no effect on self-esteem (p> 0.05).
