Abstract:

In this study, the population dynamics of the Rockypınar community, located in the Star District of Sivas and dated to the Hellenistic-Early Byzantine period, were studied. The aim of the study is to identify the demographic characteristics of the Skalipınar community and to identify their similarities and/or differences with the ancient Anadolu communities of the same period. A total of 211 squelette remains that have been revealed from different tombs are the materials of the study. The number of women in the community is more than the number of men. The infant and child mortality (18.48) is quite low compared to many societies. Among adults, the number of individuals in the middle adult age group is greater in both sexes. Deaths were concentrated in women aged 20-25 and men aged 35-40 years. The life expectancy for individuals in the first five years of life is 28.24 years. The results provided remarkable information in the light of the population structure and profile of this ancient human community.

The aim of the study is to uncover the demographic characteristics of the Kayalıpınar individuals and to determine the similarities and/or differences with the ancient Anatolian societies from the same period. The skeletal remains of a total of 211 individuals uncovered from different graves constitute the materials of the study. The number of females in the population is more than males.
