Abstract:

Especially in the 2000s, the developments in information and communication technologies have led to the digitalization of all areas of our lives. While in this rapidly digitalized world there are many opportunities for individuals, such as new business opportunities, facilities for translation and access to information, digitalization has brought significant risks to the protection of personal data, especially due to the footprints of digital transactions in the translation environment. This new generation of risks and threats and ways to protect against them, which are revealed by digitalization, have long been occupying the minds of the European Union. The "General Data Protection Regulation of the European Union", which came into force on 25 May 2018 and contains harmonised and directly applicable provisions throughout the Union, is an important step taken in the framework of the strengthened Union laws in order to protect personal data and ensure their free circulation. In this study, the "General Data Protection Regulation of the European Union", the new technical and sanctions mechanisms introduced in the context of ensuring the security of personal data, were attempted to explain with the help of various Union documents.
