Abstract:

The aim of this study is to explore whether individuals aged 60 and over who participate in the music activity in the context of active age are different in terms of social support, loneliness and life satisfaction. The participants of the study consisted of individuals over the age of 60 and a total of 156 people, including 65 (41.7%) women and 91(58.3) men between the ages of 60 and 84. The participants of the study are individuals living in cities located in the western part of Turkey. In the collection of the data of the study, the scale of achieved support (Schulz and Schwarzer, 2003), the scale of loneliness in the elderly (Gierveld and Kamphuis, 1985) and the scale of lifetime (Diener, Emmons, Larsem and Griffen, 1985) were used. Personal information forms have also been used to measure the demographic characteristics of participants. For the analysis of the data collected in the study, it was tested with correlation, independent t test and one-way Varyans analysis. After all, the social support of individuals who participate in music events has found a significant difference in terms of loneliness and life satisfaction scale scores. Individuals who participate in the music event are higher than individuals who do not participate in the music event, while social support and life satisfaction rates are higher, the loneliness scale rates are lower.
