Osmanlı Devleti’nin son dönem yazarlarından Sâdık Vicdâni 1864’te Safranbolu’da doğmuştur. Kâdiriyye tarikatına mensup bir ailede yetişmesine rağmen Nakşî-Hâlidî şeyhi Ahmed Mâhir Efendi’ye intisap etmiştir. Kastamonu İstinaf Mahkemesi’nde memurluğa başlayıp çeşitli vazifelerde bulunmuştur. Görev aldığı şehirlerde işinin yanı sıra tasavvufî hayatla da ilgilenmiş, tekke ve dergâhları ziyaret etmiş, yazma ve matbu eserleri toplamış ve yirmi yıllık araştırma sürecinde tasavvufa dair birçok eserler kaleme almıştır. Kitapta özet olarak Sâdık Vicdânî’nin hayatı ve eserleri hakkında bilgi verilmiş; aslı Vicdânî’nin el yazması olan eser İsmail Güleç tarafından Latin harflerine aktarılmıştır. Sâdık Vicdânî önsözünde eseri niçin te’lif ettiğini şu cümlelerle açıkla¬maktadır. “Tomar-ı terâiki yazmakda bir tarafdan neşr etmekte bulunduğum âsâra bir de Bektaşîlik tomarı yazmış, bunu yazarken epeyce Hurûfîlik notları hazır etmiştim.
