Abstract:

Abstract A result from a monograph research, this article analyses the contemporary concepts that guide the proposal of Australian artist Stelarc, and his vision of the human body, having as guiding principle the relationship between body, biotechnology and art. The intention is to contribute to the discussion about the attendance of technology as an accelerator of the concerns of contemporary man to his body, having the artistic production of Stelarc as an example of this phenomenon. The concept of body is investigated in this process. Finally, this concept is applied to artistic production of Stelarc in analyzing the basic premise of his work: “the human body is obsolete”. The result is the verification of the body as a place of reflection and art as an entity that promotes, advances and exposes this reflection by discussing the growing presence of technology in all spheres of life.
