Abstract:

The world and Turkey during the cold war years that started after the 2nd World War; political, military, economic, social, cultural etc. It has undergone many changes and transformations. This change and transformation in the Turkish army has been very deep. The modernization, change and transformation process of the Turkish army, which has been going on since the Ottoman Empire and continues in the Republic of Turkey within the bounds of possibilities; It increased after World War II. Two important events of 1947, the Truman Doctrine and the Marshall Plan, ended the transitional period of the post-World War II period and opened the cold war period. From the Truman Doctrine to Turkey's entry into NATO on February 18, 1952, strategic considerations were at the forefront of the United States. It had a significant impact on the course of Turkey's policy towards Turkey. The USA initiated military aid to Greece and Turkey within the scope of the Truman Aid, then activated the Marshall Plan for the economic development of Europe, and established a Western alliance with NATO in line with this new foreign policy understanding. Turkey has organized all its institutions, especially the Turkish Armed Forces, according to western norms, with the US aid it received under the Truman Doctrine and Marshall Plan.
