İskender Pasha Mosque belongingto the 16th century, located in the Adakale Street of Artvin’s Ardanuç district is the oldest Ottoman period structure in Artvin.the mosque, which is to be associated with the traditions of the regional building arts with its plan layoutand building characteristics, shows characteristic of a small social complex with its kind of mosques , bath and malls. There are Hatice Hanım, Ali Pasha and Süleyman Pasha tombs built in the reservoir of the mosque, adjacentto the West Wall of the mosque. These three buildings, built after the İskender Pasha Mosque, are datedbetween 1553-1697. Only, the inscription on Hatice Hanim’s tomb was not fully read because it was so damaged. As teh craftsmen or architects who made the tombs did not know, over time the graves in the structure were destroyed, so the information about who belongs in the graves could not be reached. Only the date of 1697 is read in one of the graves in Süleyman Pasha’s tomb. The formal silhouette of the tomb, which has a plan close to the square, construct the dome that is passed by the pendants, is similar to the 16th-17th century Ottoman figures. Rug Stones was used in the body walls of the tombs, cut stone was used in door and window frames, and the kube was covered with brick inside and covered with sheet metal outside. There are no ornaments in the tombs.
