Abstract:

The main aim of this study is to examine the traditional and contemporary assessment and evaluation approaches of mathematics teachers based on their perceptions. A total of 174 mathematics teachers working at different school stages in the seven geographical regions of Turkey participated into the research. The data of the study were collected using "Measurement and Evaluation Approaches Scale". As a result of the research, it was found that based on their perceptions mathematics teachers adopted modern/complementary measurement-evaluation approaches more compared to traditional measurement-evaluation approaches. In addition, it was observed that mathematics teachers' perceptions of measurement and evaluation approaches did not differ significantly in terms of their gender, the faculty of graduation, the school level they work in and the school type. Finally, there was no significant correlation between the measurement and evaluation approaches adopted by mathematics teachers and the number of classes they deliver in a week and their professional seniority.
