Abstract:

This study is aimed at determining the parents’ attitudes on the rights of the child. The work group of the research was formed by the parents of 7th-class students of a school representing the private primary school with 7 state primary schools representing the lower, middle and upper socio-economic levels in the Karşıyaka district of İzmir. According to the study, the attitudes of parents towards the rights of children do not differ according to their civic status, income status they perceive, and the number of children. However, the 'Government Security and Support' in the lower dimension differs in favour of boys. State security and support attitude points are different in favour of school parents at the middle socio-economic level, while 'self-decision' attitude points are different in favour of school parents at the high socio-economic level. In the separate comparison of the child rights attitudes of the public and private school parents, the public schools at the higher socio-economic level have no differences between the parents and the private school parents; the "self-decision" attitudes of the private school parents have been significantly high compared to the attitudes of the parents of the lower and middle socio-economic state school.
