Abstract:

The story of Jacob Kadri Karaosmanoğlu's National War Stories consists of twenty-eight stories. The author, with a depnotation in his work, points out that the first ninety of these stories are rejoiced under the name of the Little Story and that these are events that have occurred during the First World War and the War of Liberation, but that some of them have been revived and changed in his fiction, and that all of them must be included in literature. The last nine stories in the book are called the Mixed Story. In this study, the role of war and woman in the process of reconstruction of national identity was described and illustrated through the work of National War Stories. The positive, negative objects and images presented in the fiction and narrative of the stories. The aim here is to try to show the effective role of literature in the construction of national identity. In addition, it is to show how and how the national identity building of the Turkish society after the First World War and the Liberation War through nation and gender reflects in the stories. ‘Women and Gender’, ‘Soldat and Nation’, ‘Fatherland, Land and Woman’, ‘Inflammation, Burning and Destruction’, ‘Namus and Violence’, ‘Self-Identification in the Context of Us and Them’ and ‘Culture and Identity’ are the subtitles of the study. As a result of this study, evaluations were made to reflect the literary environment and cultural consciousness that influenced the construction of national identity. Some of the stories in the National War Stories were kept out of work because they did not illustrate the subject.
