Abstract:

The French general's questions addressed to Al Emir came in view of the rise of feminist movements, which oppose male authority and demand homeostatic equality between men and women, and absolute freedom for women. These movements were coinciding with the French Revolution and the philosophy of the Enlightenment in Europe. In the light of these liberal and modernist ideas, General Dumas directed many questions to Emir Abdelkader, denouncing the situation of women in Islamic societies. This research aims at identifying the status of women in Islam, in response to the Western condemnation of their position in the Islamic community, by defining what came in the letters of Al Emir Abdelkader, the eminent scholar, jurist, writer and author who was witnessed by Western cultural circles before the Arab world with his enlightened thought and the depth of his distinguished and serious scientific proposals. In contrast to the Western intellectual system that attempted - and is still attempting - to promote its model, we endeavour to return with our criticism and creativity to one of the original sources of knowledge in our heritage taking it as a correct basis and reference.
