Abstract:

Ibn Bâcce, one of the greatest philosophers of the West, was seen as a very original philosopher, challenging the fundamental political arguments of the other Felasife. These arguments are the validity of Platonic and Aristotle thoughts on the relationship of the philosopher with society and the political connection of the Qur’an. Erwin Rosenthal was interested in trying to show Ibn Bâcce's haredox approach to these topics. The claim in this article is that, as Rosenthal suggests, Ibn Bâcce is not far from the main stream of philosophy. There is also a broader suggestion that incorporates the traditional approach to philosophers that seeing them primarily about philosophy and religious reconciliation may be incorrect and ineffective.
