Abstract:

Dictionaries, which are the main source of vocabulary, are works that define, explain and/or give equivalents in different languages by listing the vocabulary of the language and/or languages to which they belong alphabetically or according to different criteria. Dictionaries, which are prepared in a way to include language material belonging to one or more languages and have been created in many different types throughout history, are the main source for both native speakers and second language acquisition in terms of recording and preserving the vocabulary of a language. Through dictionaries, which are the documenters of language history, the development, change, usage status and possibilities of words in the historical process are learned. The subject of this study is author-oriented dictionaries, which fall within the research field of lexicography and are among the lexicography activities. Today in Turkey, the number of dictionaries that deal with all the words used by an author in his/her works from a holistic perspective is not yet at the desired level. Increasing the quality and quantity of such dictionary studies is important in terms of revealing the possibilities of the language. In this article, author-oriented dictionary studies are emphasized and examples from historical periods of Turkish language and contemporary dictionary studies are given. Selected examples of author-oriented dictionary studies from Russian lexicography, which has a long-established lexicographical tradition, are given and the qualities that Turkish author-oriented dictionaries should have are listed. In this article, the qualities that author-oriented dictionaries, of which there are very few examples in Turkey among dictionary studies in accordance with contemporary criteria, should have are discussed.
