Abstract:

As a result of the unconscious use of the environment, environmental problems are now among the important issues that not only our country, but the whole world has to fight. With industrialization, the increase in mass production, the unlimited use of resources, the destruction, the rapid increase in population, the migration from rural to urban, the broken urbanization, the emergence of environmental crises, environmental problems have become increasingly threatening the human and living lives. In order to find a solution to these rapidly growing environmental problems, international organizations have been trying to create legal regulations, and in order to reduce environmental problems, legislation and policies have been implemented in our country in this regard. At this point, the implementation of environmental policies is greatly liable to the local government units, which are close to the local public, to eliminate the problem where it occurs. When looking at the way the environmental problems arise, a local environmental problem leads to a situation that threatens the whole country as a result of the lack of necessary measures. In this context, local governments have important responsibilities and responsibilities to eliminate environmental problems in the local unit where the growth arises. This study aims to examine the environmental policies that local governments implement to reduce environmental problems, and to identify the responsibilities that municipalities take in the environmental policies. In addition, the activities carried out by the Metropolitan Municipality of Malatya on environmental policies have been evaluated within the framework of environmental policies.
