OPINIONS OF FOREIGN STUDENTS ABOUT ATATÜRK'S PRINCIPLES AND HISTORY OF REVOLUTION

Abstract:

The aim of this research is to reveal the views of foreign students about Atatürk's Principles and History of Revolution (APHR) course. The study was conducted with phenomenology from qualitative research designs. The study group of the research was determined by the purposeful sampling method and was formed from foreign students studying at Trabzon University and Kastamonu University in the spring semester of 2018-2019. 13 foreign students, 8 girls and 5 boys, from 8 different departments, were included in the study group. The obtained data were analyzed by content analysis. During the analysis phase, both researchers were involved in the process, and the analyzed views were presented with their frequencies in tables. According to the results of the study, Atatürk's Principles and History of the Revolution course is seen as a lesson that represents national unity and solidarity, emphasizes the importance of national unity and solidarity, and that everyone living in the country should take. According to the other results obtained from the research, foreign students expressed negative opinions about factors such as intense course content, insufficient course hours, non-credit courses, communication problems, and participation being not compulsory although the course is compulsory. İt is suggested that Atatürk’s Principles and History of the Revolition caurse should be reorganized according to the departments, be given face to face, and be a credit caurse.
