Abstract:

Virtual working environments are the new norm of the working system, which includes employees working in different locations and interacting using computer communication. Improving the virtual working environments that have become an obligation, especially with the coronavirus pandemic, has become a necessity for the continuity of. While virtual working environments provide advantages to in many matters, such as cost, access to workforce, they bring together a number of challenges. In this study, the concept of virtual distance, one of the challenges that virtual work environments bring, has been studied conceptually. The reason for the study’s conceptual establishment is that the subject is not addressed in the Turkish literature in terms of virtual distance. In this context, the concept of virtual distance will open to discussion in Turkish literature and create a sub-structure for the future work to be done. The results of the research are that factors that can affect the personal’s virtual distance perception are classified as geographical distance, time distance, relative distance, cultural distance, social distance, mutual dependence of tasks, relationship history, face-to-face interaction, team size, multiple tasks, technical skills. It is believed that that deal with these factors properly can go ahead of the virtual distance.
