Abstract:

Exploring the Journal of “İslam’ın İlk Emri Oku” (The First Commandment of Islam: Read), which is one of the most representative journals that could demonstrate the phases of Islamist journalism, which is the locomotive of Islamist thought, between the dates of 1960-1980, is the main subject of this study. The purpose of study is to introduce to the Journal with its all aspects, to show its status in Islamic publishing. The Journal of Oku has started to be published in Konya by the Turkey İmam Hatip Alumni Association and the first issue was published in March-1961. The publishing advanture of the Journal has finished with the 208-209th issues published in September-October 1979. The method of this study has been arranged according to “singular scanning model”, which belongs to general scanning models of descriptive scanning model. In total, 209 issues published between the dates of 1961-1979 have been scanned. Articles published in Oku have been classified under some specific themes. Data obtained from the Journal of Oku has been sorted on SPSS programme and tables have been generated through this programme. We can say that the Journal of Oku created a readership in the historical period as it was published, and performed a certain mission in its period by both feding and had been fed by Islamist movement.
