Bugün artık pekçok ülkede fiziksel ve zihinsel engellilerin toplum yaşamına daha fazla entegre olmalarına yönelik girişimler yapılmaktadır. Toplum içerisinde farklı özelliklere sahip tüm bireylerin bir arada zaman geçirmeleri, aktif ya da pasif bir aktiviteyi ortak bir mekânda gerçekleştirmeleri sosyolojik ve psikolojik açıdan çok önemlidir. Engellilerin, tüm temel haklardan tam ve eşit şekilde yararlanması modern toplum olmanın bir gereğidir. Bu nedenle son zamanlarda kentsel alanlarda ‘evrensel tasarım’ kavramı önem kazansa da henüz engellilerin kendini tam olarak toplumla barışık hissedebilecekleri seviyede değildir. Bu çalışmada temel olarak, görme engelliler için yapılacak dış mekan tasarım yaklaşımları irdelenmiştir. Görme engellilere yönelik yapılacak bitkisel düzenlemelerde, duygu ve duyuları harekete geçirecek, koku özelliği gösteren bitkiler yönlendirici olarak kullanılabilmektedir. Bununla birlikte; güçlü zıtlıklar ve göze çarpan siluetler içeren bitkisel tasarımlar az gören kişiler için yön bulmada görsel ipuçları sağlayabilmektedirler. Sonuç olarak engelli bireylerin doğal çevreden yararlanması, kendini topluma ait hissetmesi ve yardım almadan kendi başına hareket edebilmesi için dış mekan tasarımlarında onlara yönelik çözümler getirilmeli, bu konudaki bilinç düzeyi toplumsal bazda arttırılmalıdır.
Today, in many countries, efforts are being made to further integrate physical and mental disabilities into the social life. It is very important for all individuals with different qualities in society to spend time together, to carry out an active or passive activity in a common place, sociologically and psychologically. The full and equal benefit of all fundamental rights of disabled persons is a must to be a modern society. Thus, while the concept of ‘universal design’ has gained importance in urban areas recently, it is not yet at the level where disabled people can feel perfectly peaceful with society. In this study, it was fundamentally focused on the outdoor space design approaches to be made for visual disabled people. In the plant arrangements to be made for visual disabilities, the emotions and sensations will be moved, the plants that show the smell characteristics can be used as a guide. However; plant designs containing strong contradictions and spectacular siluets can provide visual clues in finding direction for those with little vision. As a result, solutions should be introduced to them in the outdoor designs so that disabled individuals can benefit from the natural environment, feel like they belong to society and move themselves without receiving help, and the level of awareness of this issue should be increased on a social basis.

It is a requirement of modern society to make sure that people with disabilities benefit all fundamental rights, fully and equally. Therefore, "universal design" concept have gained importance recently in urban areas, but it is still not at a level where people with disabilities can feel fully at peace with society. In this study, basically, outdoor design approaches for the blind people are examined. In herbal arrangements to be made for the visually disabled, plants with odor characteristics that activate emotions and senses can be used for guidance. Additionally, planting designs with strong contrasts and outstanding silhouettes can provide visual clues in finding directions for people with low vision. As a result; suggestions should be made for disabled, in outdoor designs so they can benefit from the natural environment, feel themselves belonging to the society and act on their own without help. The level of awareness on this field should be increased on a social basis.
