Abstract:

The aim of this study is to determine the level of normative information on the development of the child of 45 mothers with a small child with developmental insufficiency that affects the quality of the home environments. The quality and quantity of the encouragement and support provided to young children in the home environment is assessed by the quality and quantity of the support provided by the Home Environment Scanning Tool, while the normative information of the mothers about the development of the child is assessed by the Matter's Childhood and Early Childhood Development Information Scale. Data on the developmental functions of small children with special needs and the participation of parents in their children’s daily games and activities are collected using the Qualification Index and the Parents’ Participation Form. The findings of the study show that the information about the participation of mothers and the development of the child is positively and on a medium level related to the quality of the home environments. According to the multi-lineal regression analysis model performed by leaving the qualification index points and the father’s participation points out, the participation of the mothers in the activities of their children and the information about the development of the child processes the quality of the home environment meaningfully. But in this model, the developmental knowledge of mothers contributed less than participating in the activities of their children. Based on these findings and the relevant fields, recommendations on parental education programs that will be developed in the future for parents with special needs of small children have been presented.
