Abstract:

This research is aimed at determining the scientific perception of Turkish teachers candidates. According to this goal, 39 women, 14 men, including 53 Turkish Education Master of Science students have been applied a semi-configured interview form. In this form there are nine questions to determine the nature of the perceptions of the teachers' candidates regarding science. The results obtained in this context can be expressed in this way. The participants wrote the first names that came to their mind when the Turkish scientist was said as Aziz Sancar, Ilber Ortaylı and Halil İnalcık, respectively. The teaching candidates found that science was compared to “the space, the tree, the cave, the cartridge, the foreign language and the galaxy.” The researchers were also asked to make pictures of the calls that were formed in their minds when they were called science. These images show that technological products, laboratories and laboratory materials are more drawn. The participants also expressed that if they were a scientist they wanted to work in the fields of medicine, space and education, respectively. However, it is clear that more than half of the candidates for Turkish teachers do not consider themselves scientifically, and in Turkey they do not consider science. Teachers’ candidates have seen America and Japan ranked scientifically in the top two among the world countries.
