Abstract:

Tokat is one of the oldest cities in Anatolia, which has hosted many civilizations in history. In the city of  Tokat, which fell under Turkish rule in the late XIth century, many religious, social, economic and cultural  artifacts such as mosques, small mosques, seminary schools, soup kitchens, lodges, inns, public baths  and tombs were constructed during the Danismendid, Seljukid and Ottoman periods. Thanks to its mild  climate and fertile agricultural lands, Tokat, situated on the east-west, south-north road route, had a  rich socio-economic potential which played a great role in the foundation of many waqfs in the city. As  in the rest of the Ottoman Empire, the religious, social, economic and cultural buildings of the Tokat  waqfs have survived with the help of waqfs revenues.
