Abstract:

This study aims to study the levels of media literature of students studying at the faculties of sports sciences. The research group consists of a total of 292 students from the Faculty of Sports Sciences at Atatürk University in the 2016-2017 semester; 90 women and 202 men who studied in the body education and sports teaching, sports management, training and recreation departments. The Media Literacy Level Determination Scale (Media Literacy Level Determination Scale) was developed by Karaman and Karataş (2015) and is a three-dimensional scale in the five-like likert type and consists of 17 items. Frequency analysis for determining the demographic characteristics of the participants in the analysis of data; T-test in independent groups was applied in the comparison of media literacy levels according to gender, learning form and the tracking variable of newspapers. To compare media readiness levels according to section, class, weekly TV viewing frequency and weekly internet use, the Tukey test was also applied to determine the source of the difference between one-way variance analysis (ANOVA) and groups. The results of the analysis found that male students had a higher level of media literacy in the lower dimension of judgment/covering messages compared to women. Students studying in the field of sports sciences are recommended to take part in this program in the elective courses in the name of the development of media literature consumption habits.
