Salgın hastalıklar dönem dönem çeşitli sebeplerden dolayı insanların hayatlarında büyük sorunlara yol açmıştır. Bu sorunlar fiziksel, ekonomik, toplumsal ve ruhsal büyük yıkımları da beraberinde getirmiştir. Başta kolera, veba, tifo, tifüs, çiçek ve sıtma gibi hastalıkların oluşturduğu bu tahrifatın etkileri uzun süre kendisini hissettirmiştir. Dünya’nın birçok yerinde olduğu gibi Osmanlı İmparatorluğu’nda da salgın hastalıklar toplumu derinden etkilemiştir. Bu etkiler, bazı yerlerde kendisini daha da etkin şekilde göstermiştir. Özellikle ticaret sahasının genişliği ve büyüklüğü, insan ilişkilerinin sıklığı sebepleriyle Akdeniz Bölgesi ve Teke Sancağı salgın hastalıkların etkilerine bariz şekilde açık hâle gelmiştir. Bu çalışmada 19. yüzyılın ikinci yarısı ve 20. yüzyılın başlarında, Osmanlı İmparatorluğu’nda Antalya merkez olmak üzere Teke Sancağı’nı etkisi altına alan çeşitli salgın hastalıklar ele alınırken bu hastalıkların genel manada meydana getirdiği etkileri üzerinde durulmaya çalışılmıştır. Yine çeşitli alanlarda etkilerini gösteren bu hastalıkları durdurma ve hastalıkların yayılmasını önleme hususunda tahaffuzhâne (karantina) ve tebhirhânelerin (dezenfeksiyon) açılması ve bu bağlamda alınan tedbirler de ortaya konulmuştur.
Epidemic diseases have caused great problems in people's lives for various reasons from time to time. These problems have brought great physical, economic, social and spiritual destruction. The effects of this devastation caused by diseases such as cholera, plague, typhoid, typhus, smallpox and malaria were felt for a long time. As in many parts of the world, epidemics had a profound impact on society in the Ottoman Empire. In some places, these effects manifested themselves even more effectively. The Mediterranean Region and the Sanjak of Teke were particularly vulnerable to the effects of epidemics due to the vastness and size of the trade area and the frequency of human relations. In this study, while discussing the various epidemic diseases that affected the Sanjak of Teke, with Antalya as the center, in the Ottoman Empire in the second half of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, it was tried to focus on the effects of these diseases in general. The measures taken in this context, such as the opening of tahaffuzhâne (quarantine) and tebhirhânes (disinfection) to stop and prevent the spread of these diseases, which showed their effects in various fields, were also revealed.
