Abstract:

The new Republic of Turkey was established as a result of the War of Independence, in which the Turkish nation struggled for existence and non-existence. The new Turkish State, which was built on the principles on which the Republic was based, tried to establish a new social model while systematically establishing its own structural order. In the first years of the Republic, it was not easy for the society to adopt the principles on which the Republic was based. The new Turkish Republic Government has formed intellectual cadres to overcome this problem. In this relationship established between the state and the founding intellectuals of the Republic, while the Turkish Republic Government established its own administrative, military, economic and political structure, the intellectuals also took on the task of accustoming the society to this order. Halide Edip Adıvar, who is among the founding intellectuals of the Republic with her literary identity, not only told the troublesome process that led to the Republic, but also tried to show the principles on which the Republic was based, with her novel Vurun Kahpeye. In the novel Vurun Kahpeye, in which the national struggle movement and the spirit of national struggle are processed, the principles of secularism, nationalism and populism, which are the founding characteristics of the Republic, are included. However, these principles are included in the novel in terms of the meanings they point to, rather than being treated as concepts. The principles on which the Republic is based are expressed in a fictional way according to the author's point of view. In this study, the novel Vurun Kahpeye was examined in line with the Republican expansions, using qualitative research methods.
