Abstract:

In Turkey, leading the research of Byzantine art and making great efforts in its development, we lost Professor Dr. S. Yıldız Ötüken, a retired faculty member of the Faculty of Literature of the Faculty of Art History and the Honorary Chair of the Demre St. Nikolaos Church Treasures on 10 September 2020. S. Yıldız Ötüken, born on December 10, 1945, received his first and secondary education in Germany due to his father's death, Adnan Ötüken, and completed his secondary education at the Ankara Girl High School. S. Star Five, who continued his university studies in Germany, after graduate and postgraduate education at the German Language and Literature Department at Ren Friedrich Wilhelm University, his doctorate in Byzantine Arts was given by Prof. Dr. In consultation with Horst Hallensleben, he completed a doctoral thesis entitled "Jesus Gate Mosque und Medresesi in Istanbul / Jesus Gate Mosque and Medresesi in Istanbul". After returning to Turkey, Yıldız Ötüken began his teaching membership in the Art History Department of the University of Hacettepe in 1975, and continued his academic life in the same department until he retired in 2011.
