Abstract:

Umay preserves its existence as a female and powerful symbol from the oldest periods of Turkish culture to the present day. Mardin, which forms the workplace, is one of the private cities with a rich narrative tradition in this regard. In the study passed Sıtti Radviye, Sıtti Nefise, Mort Shmuni, Sheikh Lıbben Turbesi and the legend and memoirs that develop around them were assessed, it was possible to reach the traces of the Umay cult clearly. This continues to occur in the rituals and practices of the city people. The main objective of the study in this context is to identify the current traces of the Umay spirit in the Mardin field where the verbal culture has a significant wealth and to draw attention to the existence of the female/conservative culture and the elements of traditional folk science that host the Umay cult by evaluating the achieved results. The study was conducted by the method of interview with fourteen sources.
