Kronik Hastalıkların Yol Açtığı Bazı Toplumsal Problemler

Abstract:

Sağlık ve hastalığın tıbbi ve biyolojik boyutlarının yanı sıra psikolojik ve sosyal boyutları da bulunmaktadır. Sağlık ve hastalık sadece insanların bedenleri üzerinde etkiye sahip değildir. Kronik hastalıklar kimi zaman toplumsal sorunlara davetiye çıkarabilmektedir. Kronik hastalıkların uzun dönemli olmaları, kişilerin sosyal problemlere maruz kalma olasılığını artırabilmektedir. Sadece kronik hastalıklara sahip olan kişiler değil, onların yakın çevrelerinde bulunan kişiler de birtakım toplumsal sorunlar yaşayabilmektedirler. Günümüzde ortalama yaşam süresi giderek uzamaktadır. Uzun süre yaşamak kronik hastalıkların artışını beraberinde getirebilmektedir. Bu nedenle kronik hastalıklara sahip bireylerin yaşadıkları toplumsal sorunların giderek daha önemli hale geldiği ifade edilebilir. Kronik hastalıkların toplumsal etkileri hasta kişinin kendisi, hastalığın türü, hastalığın gidişatı, hastanın eğitim düzeyi, cinsiyeti, toplumsal tabakası, aile yapısı, yerleşim yeri gibi pek çok faktöre göre değişebilmektedir. Kronik hastalıklara sahip olan kişilerin benliklerinde ve toplumsal kimliklerinde birtakım değişiklikler yaşanabilmektedir. Çünkü uzun dönemli kronik hastalıklar, bedensel kayıplar, engellilik gibi pek çok durum benlik saygısında azalmaya, toplumsal kimlik kayıplarına, kimlik değişimlerine neden olabilmektedir. Kronik hastalıklar kişilerin gündelik yaşam aktiviteleri üzerinde de etkili olabilmektedir. Özellikle ağır kronik hastalıklar kişilerin gündelik yaşam aktivitelerini sergilemelerine engel olabilmekte ve kişilerin başkalarına bağımlı hale gelmelerine davetiye çıkarabilmektedir. Kronik hastalıklara sahip olan kişilerin sosyal ilişkilerinde de bir takım problemler yaşanabilmektedir. Fiziksel eksiklik ya da görüntüde meydana gelen değişiklikler, damgalanma, utanma, benlik saygısında azalma, maddi imkânsızlıklar, hastalığın gidişatı, uzun tedavi süreleri gibi pek çok faktör kişilerin sosyal ilişkilerinin azalmasına ya da sosyal yalıtıma neden olabilmektedir. Kronik hastalıklara sahip olan kişiler aile içi ve aile dışındaki bazı toplumsal rollerini sergileme konusunda da problemler yaşayabilmektedirler. Söz konusu problemler onların aileleri ve çevreleriyle ilişkilerini etkileyebilmektedir. Bazı kronik hastalıklar kimi zaman bir sapma olarak nitelendirilebilmekte ve bu hastalıklara sahip olan kişiler damgalanabilmektedirler. Damgalanan kişiler sağlık hizmeti almada ve sosyal yaşama katılmada sorunlarla karşılaşabilmektedirler. Kronik hastalıkların yol açtığı toplumsal problemlerin dile getirilmesi, sorunların çözülmesi açısından son derece önemlidir.

There are medical and biological dimensions of health and disease as well as psychological and social dimensions. Health and illness do not only affect human bodies. Chronic diseases can sometimes lead to social problems. Long-term chronic diseases may increase the likelihood of people being exposed to social problems. Not only people with chronic diseases, but those in their close surroundings can also experience a number of social problems. Today, the average life is increasingly expanding. Long life can lead to an increase in chronic diseases. Therefore, it can be stated that the social problems that individuals with chronic diseases experience are becoming more and more important. The social effects of chronic diseases can vary according to many factors, such as the patient’s individual, the type of disease, the course of the disease, the patient’s level of education, gender, social layer, family structure, residence. A number of changes can occur in the identity and social identity of people with chronic diseases. Because long-term chronic diseases, physical losses, disabilities can cause a decrease in self-esteem, loss of social identity, change of identity. Chronic diseases can also affect people’s daily life activities. Especially severe chronic diseases can prevent people from showing their daily life activities and invite people to become addicted to others. People with chronic illness can also experience a number of social relationships. Many factors such as physical deficiency or changes in the image, marking, shame, decreased self-respect, material insufficiency, disease progression, long treatment periods can lead to a decrease in the social relationships of individuals or social isolation. People with chronic diseases may also have trouble showing some of their social roles within and outside the family. These problems can affect their relationships with their families and their surroundings. Some chronic diseases can sometimes be described as a deviation and people with these diseases can be marked. People who are affected can face problems in receiving health care and participating in social life. Speaking of the social problems caused by chronic diseases is extremely important for the solution of the problems.

Health and illness have psychological and social aspects, besides their medical and biological aspects. Health and illness not only have effects on human body. Chronic illnesses may also cause social problems sometimes. The fact that chronic illnesses are long-termed could raise the probability of confronting social problems. Not only the patients with chronic illnesses but also the people around them could have social problems. Nowadays life expectancy increasingly strings out. Living for a long time could also bring about the increase of chronic illnesses. For this reason, it can be said that social problems of individuals with chronic illnesses become more important day by day. Chronic illnesses’ social effects could change as to many factors such as the sick person himself/herself, type of the illness, educational level of the patient, gender, social stratum, family structure, living place. Selfhood and identities of patients with chronic illness could alter in some sense. Because many circumstances such as long-termed chronic illnesses, physical losses, disability can cause decrease of self-esteem, loss of social identity, identity alterations. Chronic illnesses may have effects on people’s daily life activities. Especially serious chronic illnesses may prevent the patients from doing daily life activities and cause them to be dependent on other people. Patients with chronic illnesses have also a number of problems in their social relationships. Many factors such as physical deficiency or changes about appearance, stigmatization, shame, decrease of selfesteem, financial problems, state of the illness could cause decrease in the patients’ social relationships or social isolation. Patients with chronic illnesses have also some problems about performing social roles in and out of the family. Some chronic illnesses could be qualified as deviation sometimes and the patients fall into that illness could be stigmatized. Stigmatized persons may confront with problems on achieving health services and contributing social life. Expressing the social problems caused by chronic illnesses is extremely important in the sense of solving problems
