Covid-19 Salgın Döneminde 0-6 Yaş Grubu Çocuklarda Ev Kazaları ve İlişkili Faktörler: Türkiye Örneği
2022
Journal:
Turkish Studies

Abstract:

Covid-19 In the Influential Period 0-6 Years in Children Home Accidents and Related Factors: Turkey Example
2022

Turkish Studies

Abstract:

In this study, the Covid-19 epidemic period was aimed at examining 0-6-year-old children from the point of view of the case accident and related factors. The study group consists of 540 parents who voluntarily accept participation in the study, with all of their children in the 0-6 age group, working from home or with a flexible work system during the Covid-19 epidemic process, with different socio-demographic characteristics. In addition, the investigation of the factors associated with the accident has taken advantage of the data of 134 household accidents in which children have suffered. This study was found to be ethically appropriate at the meeting held on 8 June 2021 by the Ethics Committee of the University of Hacettepe (Number: E- 35853172). The research data was obtained by the survey form prepared by the researchers. In the first part of the prepared survey form there are questions to identify the social-demographic information of the parents, in the second part the information about the children who suffered a household accident and the characteristics of the house experienced. In the last section, Turan, Altundağ-Dündar, Yorgancı and Yıldırım (2010) used the "home accident safety test" that reveals the state of 20 material houses from the point of view of the accident. According to the results of the study; in the Covid-19 epidemic period, children aged 0-6 met 134 (24%). 8) 58.2 percent of household accidents occurred by boys, falling accidents came to the first place, a little more than half of the children who suffered household accidents (54,5 percent) occurred in the living room. A statistically significant difference was found in the case of parental accident safety test scores of 0-6-year-old children in the Covid-19 epidemic period, the information/education status of parents in the case of accidents and the number of children possessed (p<0,05) The findings obtained were discussed with studies conducted in the pre-epidemic and epidemic period and recommendations were given to individuals, institutions and organizations in the context of the prevention of accidents in the case of children in the epidemic period. Since there were a few academic studies on the subject in the time of interruption, it is believed that this study will contribute to the field by filling the emptiness in the field, which will lead to similar studies on the subject.

Home Accidents Among Children Aged 0-6 Years During The Covid-19 Pandemic and Related Factors: The Case Of Turkey
2022

Turkish Studies

Abstract:

This study aims to examine home accidents experienced by children aged 0-6 years during the COVID-19 pandemic in terms of related factors. The study group of the research consisted of 540 parents with children aged between 0 and 6 years, who worked from home or through a flexible working system during the COVID-19 pandemic, and who voluntarily agreed to participate in the study. Furthermore, the research was designed as a descriptive study using the data of 134 home accidents experienced by children. This study was approved (No: E- 35853172) by Hacettepe University Ethics Commission at the meeting held on June 8, 2021. The study data were collected using the 20-item "Home Accident Safety Test," prepared by Turan, Altundağ-Dündar, Yorgancı and Yıldırım (2010) and revealing the state of houses in terms of home accidents. According to the study results, it was determined that 58.2% of 134 (24.8%) home accidents faced by children aged 0-6 years during the COVID-19 pandemic were experienced by boys, fall-related accidents stood out, slightly more than half of the children who faced home accidents had the accident in the living room (54.5%). A statistically significant difference was found when the home accident safety test scores of the parents included in the study were examined in terms of 0-6-year-old children having a home accident during the COVID-19 pandemic, informing/training the parents regarding home accidents, and the number of children they had. The findings were discussed within the framework of the current epidemic period and pre-epidemic studies in the literature, and suggestions were made to individuals, relevant institutions and organizations in order to prevent home accidents that may occur in children during the epidemic period. Since there are few academic studies on the subject during the epidemic period, it is thought that this study will contribute to the field by filling the gap in the literature and leading similar studies to be made on the subject.
